Day 1: Kota Kinabalu city highlights → Sandakan

 

Begin your Sabah journey with a short city tour of Kota Kinabalu, exploring key cultural and historical landmarks. In the afternoon, fly to Sandakan and check in to a nature-focused resort for the night.

 

Day 2: Sepilok orangutans • Sun bears • Kinabatangan river

 

Visit the world-renowned Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre before continuing to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. Travel by riverboat into the Kinabatangan wetlands, spotting wildlife along the mangroves. Enjoy an afternoon wildlife cruise and a guided night walk in the rainforest.

 

Day 3: Pitas lake • Sukau • Menanggul river

 

Begin the day with a dawn river safari before journeying upriver to Sukau. Settle into a riverside lodge and enjoy an afternoon cruise in search of proboscis monkeys, hornbills and other Bornean wildlife.

 

Day 4: Sukau → Sandakan → Kota Kinabalu

 

Return to Sandakan by riverboat, stopping briefly at Abai. After lunch, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Kota Kinabalu. Check in to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

 

Day 5: Kinabalu National Park day trip

 

Take a scenic drive to Kinabalu Park, Malaysia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Join a guided nature walk, explore the botanical garden and learn about the region’s remarkable flora before returning to Kota Kinabalu.

 

Day 6: Kota Kinabalu → Danum Valley

 

Fly to Lahad Datu and continue to the famed Borneo Rainforest Lodge deep in Danum Valley. Enjoy guided walks, canopy walkway exploration, and (weather permitting) a night drive in search of nocturnal animals. Overnight in one of Borneo’s most exclusive rainforest lodges.

 

Day 7: Trekking & rainforest experience (Danum Valley)

 

Trek to an ancient burial site via the Coffin Trail before returning to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a second jungle walk or optional river tubing. Evening at leisure followed by a night walk to spot nocturnal wildlife.

 

Day 8: Danum Valley → Kota Kinabalu

 

Enjoy a relaxed morning before departing Danum Valley for Lahad Datu. Fly back to Kota Kinabalu for the night.

Choose to relax in Kota Kinabalu or enhance your journey with optional activities such as a gentle white-water rafting experience on Kiulu River, or a day trip to Manukan or Mamutik Island in Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park.
